Jesus was asked a similar question on the following occasion: “But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”

Here's an answer that helped me with this question: In Deut 30:15-20 it says: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God,

Jesus: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

Paul and Silas: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31.
